essie recently released their fourth installment to the Gel Couture Line in order to celebrate their first anniversary. They first came out with this line in July of 2016 and then added to it in January when they released their Gel Couture Ballet Nudes Collection, adding again in the Spring when they added a limited addition bridal collection by Monique Lhuillier. The newest part of the line, the Gala Bolds Collection, consists of twelve new polishes that help the everyday consumer get the VIP look! These polishes also come with a platinum grade finish top coat that was designed to have a high shine formula that helps to protect the nail from chipping and keeps your polish intact for up to 14 days! I recently took some time to swatch the entire collection and to dig up some comparisons and I think you will all be interested to see what I found out!
First up we have ‘Wearing Hue?’, a creamy delicate white with a slight blush of champagne. It surprisingly only took me two coats to get this shimmer polish opaque. When first looking at it I thought it was going to be more on the sheer side but it built up quickly and turned out to be one of my favorites from the line.
Next we have ‘PR Stunt’, a creamy lavender pink shimmering with gold. I was super excited with this one when I first saw it, however the formula was a bit patchy for me, most likely because of the gold shimmer embedded into the formula. This doesn’t mean this polish is a no go it just takes a bit more time and patience to get it looking perfect!
‘Inside Scoop’, is a sheer tea rose pink with a slight blue undertone. This sheer polish took three coats to get it as opaque as I like but depending on how sheer you like your polish you could have gotten away with less! At first look I thought this polish was going to be a close dupe for ‘Spaghetti Strap’ but upon comparison ‘Inside Scoop’ has many more pink undertones.
‘Last Night’s Look’ is a rich and bright salmon pink. This one took three coats and I had a heart eyes emoji written next to my swatching notes so that means I thought this one was amazing in every way! Formula was on point, color was on point, and a polish unlike any others I own!
‘Sizzling Hot’, an opaque saturated hibiscus red with a pink undertone. This one took two coats for me and applied fantastically. I’m not big on reds/oranges for my nails but for those of you who are this one was a dream to apply and was super pigmented!
Next we have ‘Style Stunner’, a bright orange with an underlying red. This one was pretty much the same to me as ‘Sizzling Hot’, not really a color I would wear but has a great formula and I had no issues with applying or staining when removing.
‘Living Legend’ is a rich risk-taking crimson. This one is the perfect red for those of you who are all about that red nail! It only took one coat but I did two in order to make it an even deeper more crimson red!
‘V.I.Please’, is a deep berry violet hinted with red. This is seriously the prettiest polish ever. I think I say that about at least one from each new collection but come on essie just comes out with the best polish every. single. time. This was a one coat wonder which makes the polish that much more fantastic and will probably be on my favorites list for quite some time. Run, run, run to get it.
‘Next is ‘Beau-tie’, a rich black amethyst. These types of polishes that could be seen as black but on closer investigation are actually a deep purple are polishes that I live for. This took two coats and is making me want sweater weather and a big blanket by the fire. This will be on repeat for Fall/Winter of 2017 and most likely 2018, 2019, etc.
‘Front Page Worthy’, a dark royal blue with a pearl overcast. When first opening up my PR package from essie and looking at what was inside this was the polish that immediately caught my eye. It reminded me of one of my long time favorite essie polishes ‘Aruba Blue’ and it instantly gave me all the feels. Once putting it on my nail it was a done deal and I just love how it looks and how easily it applied!
‘Star Studded’ is a rich pearlescent golden honey. Whenever I see polishes like this it gives me a bit of a moment of hesitation. I’m not a big fan of some of the metallic/pearl polishes that essie has come out with like ‘Good As Gold’ and ‘Penny Talk’. To me they are so pretty in the bottle or for nail art but when I go to paint my entire nail that color it gets streaky and patchy and I can never get it to look how I want it. Well ‘Star Studded’ was not like that at all! It could have been applied in one coat but I did two to make it even more glitzy and that made all the difference! This one is definitley a show stopper and essie hit it out of the park with this one.
Last but not least is ‘Fashion Faceoff’ a light, smoky gray with a soft pearl. This follows along the same lines as ‘Star Studded’. I was apprehensive at first but upon trying it on my nail I was amazed at how great the formula was for a pearl/metallic type polish. I did use three coats for this one as its a bit lighter and less pigmented than ‘Star Studded’.
Below are comparisons of the Gel Couture Gala Bolds to polishes in my personal collection. Please note that all of the polishes that I have used for comparisons are from the normal essie line and are not Gel Couture polishes, this is because I didn’t really have any Gel Coutures that were very similar to the polishes in this collection. Please also note that even though I did have a few dupes from the regular essie line the formulas of the two polish types are different and the GC polishes will last longer! Please take this into consideration when thinking of what to get/what not to get!
As you can see ‘B’aha Moment’ is almost the exact same color as ‘v.i.please’ only slightly lighter. In my opinion these two definitley pass as dupes but if you do want the GC formula or don’t own either than I would definitley go with ‘v.i.please’.
‘Color Binge’ is a tad darker and more orangey red, while ‘Style Stunner’ is a touch lighter.
‘Sunset Sneaks’ is just a tad bit pinker than ‘Sizzling Hot’ but these two still come pretty close to one another.
‘Leggy Legend’ is obviously way more of a copper color and ‘Star Studded’ is a pure gold with pearl shimmer embedded inside.
Surprisingly these two were very different! At first I thought they were going to be alike but ‘Aruba Blue’ is a lot more of a sapphire frost blue, while ‘Front Page Worthy’ almost reminds me of a denim colored blue and is more royal with shimmer from the pearls in the formula.
I decided to do some comparisons that I thought would be most asked for but if there is one that I didn’t do please let me know and I can update my post with this information if I have the polish!
There were definitley some hits and misses personally in this collection as I am not a huge fan of oranges/reds and there were a few in this bunch, however almost all of the formulas were amazing and the added shine of the new topcoat made my nails look so nice! I would say my top four polishes were ‘v.i.please’, ‘Front Page Worthy’, ‘Last Night’s Look’, and ‘Wearing Hue?’, however I really liked almost all of them so it’s hard to pick! Please let me know what you think and if any of the polishes caught your eye! Also let me know on Instagram if there are any more comparisons you want me to do and I will try my best to do them for you!
The products in this post were sent to me by essie, however this post was all my personal opinion. #essiepartner
