Each year essie surprises us with a few unique collections that are unlike anything that they have done before. This year they came out with the Soda Pop Collection featuring six retro shades that will transport you back to the 1950’s. These sweet shades were inspired by retro diners and might make you want to do the hand jive. I was super excited when I heard about this collection because I love this idea and the execution was done perfectly, from the marketing of the collection to the shades itself essie outdid themselves! Now lets take a look at all six shades so you can shake, rattle, and roll all summer long.
Polishes from left to right: ‘Going Steady’, ‘Babes in the Booth’, ‘Out of the Jukebox’, ‘Drive-in and Dine’, ‘Pin Me Pink’, and ‘Cherry On Top’.
These shades are currently available at your local CVS. I have linked each polish below in blue if you are interested in purchasing them!
First up we have ‘Going Steady’, a milky ivory with iridescent shimmer. This polish took three thin coats to apply. Because of how sheer the polish is I also used a base coat of ‘Treat Me Bright’ one of the essie TLC polishes. I feel like this helped the shimmer show more and it also made it so that I didn’t have to do five or six coats to get an opaque look.
Next we have ‘Out Of The Jukebox’, a light creamsicle with honey gold shimmer. This one took three thin coats to apply. I don’t have any polishes like this one in my collection and although I don’t think it is something I will be reaching for often I do like how different it is.
‘Pin Me Pink’ is a bubble gum pink and is going to be my new go to pink this summer. It applied like a dream in two coats and has the creamiest formula.
‘Babes In The Booth’ is a soft taffy pink. This one has an iridescent shimmer embedded within and leaves the polish looking like a frosted pink on the nail. I used three thin coats to achieve this opaqueness.
Next is ‘Drive-in and Dine’ a decadent raspberry purple. This one is stunning once on the nail and applies in two super easy coats. I know some people might wonder what a dark color like this is doing in a summer collection but I’m loving it! This gorgeous purple adds a unique twist to my summer line up and will be perfect for those days I want to get away from my usual summer picks.
‘Cherry On Top’ is a bright pop of candy apple red. As you all know I am not a huge fan of red so this one wasn’t really for me. I do love the formula and how easy this polish went on, this could be a one coat wonder depending on your application. Be careful when removing this one and make sure to use a base coat because the red pigment does slightly stain.

My three favorites from this collection are ‘Drive-in and Dine’, ‘Going Steady’, and ‘Pin Me Pink. The execution of this collection was done perfectly and that is what makes it a win for me. Another amazing part of this collection is the brand new brush-design. After many years of the classic essie brush, essie has decided to switch it up and has brought us a newly designed modernized brush. The brush has a wider shape that fits your nail perfectly and helps to provide a precise application time after time. This brush makes it easy to glide the polish over the nail and helped me to apply my polish with ease! I thought this was such a cute collection and I am loving it for summer. Let me know what you guys think about the collection and if you are loving the new brush design!
